Israeli courts have been admired and condemned throughout the world for the decisions made within them over the past 75 years. This course will look at five prominent cases as a window into the tensions that lie at the heart of Israeli society to this day.

 Following the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli yeshiva students in the summer of 2014, a 15-year-old Palestinian boy is killed in revenge. Ittay will explore the legacy of this murder by looking at the trial of the accused and the popular depiction of this tragedy in the HBO series “Our Boys.”

The case of the first sitting Israeli Prime Minister to go on trial for bribery, fraud and breach of trust.

Ittay Flescher is one of the Jewish Museum of Australia's most popular adult education facilitators and his courses are always fully booked and for good reason. He has designed and delivered courses which have been engaging, thoughtful ,challenging and entertaining . Tackling Israeli society today is difficult yet through the medium of film and text in his course Israeli Society through Film Ittay was able to canvas all political points of view and manage the heated discussions that ensued with intelligence and insight. He curated and edited the selection of films to reveal many faces of Israel and encouraged discussion and respect for all points of view.

With his diligent preparation and pedagogic understanding of structuring a 2-hour session Ittay continues to educate in the best way- by arousing curiosity and enlarging students' world views and as he says- his intent is to trouble the comfortable and comfort the troubled . He is one of the Museum's most valued and beloved teachers in our adult education short courses program.
